Garden lighting serves multiple purposes. Illuminating pathways, decks, and porches makes them safer to navigate and deters would-be intruders. The soft, ambient glow creates an appealing atmosphere. Besides enhancing the beauty of a garden, lighting extends the time spent outdoors. "If a yard is properly lit, people are more apt to linger outside after it’s dark," Nick says. When considering lighting, first evaluate your property. Make a list of trafficked areas and living spaces. Look online and in home improvement stores to familiarize yourself with different types of lighting. Peruse websites such as Houzz and Pinterest for inspiration and consult with your LED Outdoor designer. Lighting can be added in stages as time and budget allows.
Linden Park residents Barry and Janine collaborated with Troy to renovate their urban yard. Lighting was regarded as an integral component of the overall design. The entire system consists of a single transformer and 54 efficient LED fixtures that draw under 200 watts of power. The garden lights are setup in multiple zones that they can all be controlled independently. Importantly the lights in the alfresco area can also be dimmed. Three years after completion, Barry and Janine are so pleased with the result. "I'm so glad we invested in a comprehensive, high-quality lighting system. It has performed flawlessly and makes the space so much more inviting. We just love entertaining outdoors".

Garden lighting is all about painting a picture and highlighting features you may not ordinarily see during the day. Having elements of light and dark creates interest and contrast within the garden. The last thing we want in garden lighting is to be blinded by a light in our eyes. So where ever possible we ensure that lights are either discretely placed or mounted high enough so they are not within your normal line of sight. ![]() Flood lights do however have their place. If you are looking at security lighting LED flood lights are a very efficient way of providing illumination of large areas. They are also great for activity areas like tennis courts and swimming pools. We often recommend flood lights are placed over swimming pool and lawn areas so adequate light can be provided for safety. This is particularly important if kids are playing football on the lawn or sports in the pool. Overall, ensure that the flood lights can be controlled separately to your garden lighting and then you won't be compromising the look of your garden.
